Job Description

Mendota Community Consolidated School District #289 is seeking a qualified  School Maintenance Director  to oversee all maintenance and grounds operations for the district's K–8 facilities.

This position ensures safe, clean, and well-maintained buildings that support student learning and district operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct and supervise maintenance and grounds staff
• Plan and implement preventive maintenance for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and building systems
• Ensure compliance with  ISBE , OSHA, EPA, and local codes
• Manage maintenance budgets, purchasing, and vendor contracts
• Conduct facility inspections and prioritize repairs and capital improvements
• Coordinate summer projects, renovations, and emergency repairs
• Maintain accurate records and work order documentation
• Respond to after-hours and emergency maintenance needs as required

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required
• 5–7 years of facilities or building maintenance experience
• 2–3 years of supervisory experience
• Working knowledge of building systems and safety regulations
• Valid Illinois driver's license

Preferred

• Experience in an Illinois K–8 public school district
• Degree or certification in facilities management or related field
• Experience with capital projects and CMMS systems

Salary:  Starting at $25.00 an hour, commensurate with knowledge and experience
